Correct It with a Crown
Where damage to the teeth is extreme and seems beyond repair, crowns can make things appear just like new.
We use porcelain or porcelain bonded on gold crowns to restore the look of your teeth. Crowns are a reliable technique for repairing severe dental problems, like even replacing a missing tooth to offer a complete smile and a functional bite.

Why Would I Need a Crown?
Crowns are coverings or caps for damaged teeth. Damage can occur from:
- Breakage
- Tooth decay
- Root canal
- Large filling
Discolouration from metal fillings can also be improved with a crown, or you might need a crown to hold a bridge or denture in place.
We will work with you to determine whether your new crown should cover the tooth to the gum line or if only a partial covering is needed. This depends on the purpose of the crown and the overall health of the tooth.
What Is the Process?
Fitting a crown requires at least 2 visits to our office.
Initial Visit
During your first visit, we’ll remove any decay and shape the tooth by filing it down and removing the outer layer. We might take X-rays of your teeth to ensure a proper fit of the crown.
We will also take an impression of your tooth and send it to the lab to create the crown. A temporary crown of either plastic or metal will be placed over your trimmed tooth.
Second Visit
During your next appointment, we will remove the temporary crown and fit and adjust the final crown. We will cement it into place, and you will walk out of our office with a new tooth.
Caring for Your Crown
Take good care of your new crown by incorporating the following tips:
- Brush your teeth twice a day
- Floss daily
- Avoid hard foods to prevent cracking
- Talk with your dentist if you grind or clench your teeth at night (you might need a mouth guard)
